Emma's Surgery

Emma had her tonsils and adnoids out on July 17th. She did exceptionally well and the surgery went better than we could have expected. The dr. said that her tonsils were very large and she should be feeling a lot better from now on. I snapped a couple pictures along the way.

The pictures actually loaded backwards so start at the bottom.
1. This is pre-"goofy juice".
2. Post "goofy juice"
3. In the recovery room, as all the other children were screaming, she slept so peacefully.

Cinderella

Back in February I took Emma to see Cinderella at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. After the ballet was over, we got to go on stage and meet Cinderella and her Prince, take pictures with them and have a snack. Emma had such a great time and really enjoyed the ballet. Her favorite part was Cinderella's step-sisters, they were played by men and were very comedic. After the ballet was over and we were all applauding, Emma started yelling "Brabo! Brabo!" and screaming at the top of her lungs, it was really funny.

It was really nice to take her and be by ourselves. I would definitely like to make taking her to the ballet more of a tradition for us.

Oh and I forgot to mention how funny it was that she went up there and sat so nice. A lot of the other little girls were sitting with their legs open in dresses and I mentioned to her, "When you go take your picture make sure to cross your legs because you're wearing a dress." You can see the resulting picture.

Our trip to Miami and Key West, FL

Pictures:
Sunrise seen from the balcony of our room in Key West.
Our hotel in Key West, Southernmost On The Beach as seen from the hotel's pier.
One of Key West's famed sunsets seen from Mallory Square.
Travis and I at the football game during halftime while OU's band plays in the background.

Travis and I took a trip to Florida in January. He had a CLE (continuing legal education) seminar there. It also just happened to be when OU was playing in the National Championship Game there in Miami so we went to that too. We have wanted to visit Key West for a long time now and decided to take the opportunity to drive down there after the seminar was over. The drive down A1-A was breathtaking, but did take forever to get there! KW was so worth the drive and we both left wishing we had more time to spend there.

We plan to go back to KW in June for my 30th birthday and I can't wait to get back to my hammock next to the ocean!

A small example of what it's like around here

A normal part of the Hartley household! And no, she NEVER stops. haha

Abby samples a lemon

I think it's a rite of passage to have a video of your kid making faces while eating a lemon. haha

A nice day in January

We had some rare nice weather during January and took full advantage of it. The girls rode their bikes and played outside. It was so nice to get some fresh air!

Guitar Hero

NeNe and Papa Jot got Guitar Hero for Christmas and we went over to play with them. The girls are in the living room with "Bobby".

Nutcracker 2008

NeNe, Emma and I went to see the Tulsa Ballet Theater's production of The Nutcracker this past year. It was Emma's first time to see the ballet and she liked it. We almost lost her during the second half but were able to keep her mildly interested. NeNe got her her own special nutcracker doll and she really loved it.

Nothing sexier than a daddy wearing his baby!

Travis wearing Abby in the Beco baby carrier.

Family

After the Christmas play we took a picture with some of my family that came to see the girls. From left to right are:
Me, Granny, Aunt Frances, and Josh holding Abby

Two Little Lambs in the Christmas Play

Emma was a lamb in our church's Christmas play again this year. This was Abby's first year to get to do it and she did really well. I helped corral all the kids in the nursery before their big debut and took these pictures of our girls.

Abby's Hospital Adventure

For those of you who don't know, Abby got to spend the night in the hospital over the Thanksgiving holiday. She had gotten into a friends' medication and we were unsure if she had actually taken any or not. So, to be on the safe side, we had to have her admitted for observation. She had to have an IV and have her foot stuck to check her blood sugar every hour all night long. It was a long night to say the least. She was (as you can tell in the pictures) in good spirits despite her circumstances.

Quick Change Abby

This was Abby happily eating her meal, then not-so-happily getting her face washed and finally, happy once more all in a time span of mere seconds.

Grandma Maxin'es 80th Birthday

This was October 24, 2008. We all met up at the old PSO building and had her party. Everyone had a great time and I think Grandma enjoyed herself too.

Mommy-in-training

Emma got a doll sling for her birthday so she can carry her "babies" just like I carry Abby. I think she looks like a natural!

Comparison of Halloween from 2004 - 2008

Emma's first Halloween was spent in the NICU at ten days old. She was still so tiny and so precious. She's still precious just not so tiny.
